7.6 SR Earthquake Swallowed Thousands of Victims

Earthquake with a strength of 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred in Sumatera, Indonesia on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 local time (17:16:00 WIB) have claimed the lives of thousands who are still buried in a collapsed building. This worst earthquake occurred in West Sumatera, and the current evacuation team is still difficult to find buried victims because of the heavy equipment used is not supported to do that. On the first day post-earthquake evacuation process is slow because it only be done manually. Help the new equipment comes on the second day post-earthquake.

Condition of the buildings are not designed for earthquake resistance is a major factor of the destruction of nearly all over the building. Many people who can not be helped because it has hit a collapsed building and the estimated thousands of people still buried in collapsed buildings. Until now the Indonesian government has added to the evacuation team to help search for victims in West Sumatera. This support team is not only from governments but also from organizations and communities in the West Sumatera.
